Fraud Prevention Case 1:
Vietnamese Migrant Worker Paid NT$1,000 to Pick Up a Package – Only to Find Bank Cards and a Mobile Phone Inside
According to a case reported by the Taichung Branch of the Police Broadcasting Service, a Vietnamese migrant worker surnamed Nguyen was instructed by someone he met online to pick up packages from a designated pickup location. He was promised NT$1,000 for each package he collected.
Police officers noticed that he appeared nervous and approached him for questioning. He suddenly ran away but was eventually stopped with the help of police officers and members of the public.
When the police inspected the package, they found bank cards and a mobile phone belonging to other people. These items were suspected of being tools used by a fraud syndicate to conduct fraudulent transactions and transfer illegal funds. The case was referred for further investigation in accordance with the law.
Fraud Prevention Reminder: Do not assume that you have no responsibility simply because you are "only helping someone pick up a package."
If you knowingly help collect or transfer bank cards, mobile phones, money, or other items for a fraud syndicate, you may face criminal liability for offenses such as fraud and money laundering.
A reward of just NT$1,000 could end up costing you much more!
Fraud Prevention Case 2:
Don’t Lend Your SIM Card for Money – It Could Be Used for Fraud
Some migrant workers may give or lend their registered mobile phone numbers or SIM cards to friends, acquaintances, people they meet online, or others. However, these phone numbers or SIM cards may later be used by fraud syndicates to contact victims or carry out fraudulent activities.
Fraud Prevention Reminder: Never sell, rent, lend, or give your SIM card, mobile phone number, or one-time password (OTP) to anyone else.
Even if someone tells you:
• "I only need to borrow it for a while."
• "Just help me receive a verification code."
• "You can make easy money."
Stay alert — your SIM card or phone number could be used as a tool for fraud.
Protect your personal information and accounts. Don’t let a small payment lead to serious legal consequences.
